[LEGAL ENTITY] operates the road.dog service. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.

Core principle

A finder needs almost nothing to return a pet, so we expose almost nothing. Pet records are gated by a three-tier disclosure model. Sensitive details are revealed only to people you authorize, for limited time windows. Every reveal is logged in your dashboard.

Information we collect

You provide: name, email, phone (if you opt in to SMS), password, pet profile details, payment information through our processor, and messages you send to support.

We collect automatically: pages visited, features used, IP address, device type, browser, beacon detection events, vet access request metadata, and the audit log of every disclosure event.

The three-tier model

Tier 1 public: anyone scanning the tag sees pet name, photo, breed, color, approximate age, whether medical alerts or insurance exist (yes or no only), the vet's name, a proxied contact-owner button, and an emergency button.

Tier 2 vet: full medical and insurance details are revealed only when you authorize a treating vet via the access-request flow. Authorization is one tap, time-limited to 24 hours, device-bound, and revocable from your dashboard.

Tier 3 owner: visible only to you when logged in.

Owner contact details are never exposed to finders. The contact-owner button routes through a proxy that forwards finder messages to you without disclosing your phone or email to the finder.

How we use information

To provide the service, process purchases and subscriptions, send transactional notifications, verify vet access requests, investigate fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your information. We do not use your information for targeted advertising. We do not allow third-party advertisers to collect your information through our service.

Verification of vet requests

When a vet requests access, we verify the request via phone number lookup, geographic cross-check, active alert correlation, and finder-handoff correlation. These signals are shown to you on the approval push. We share no pet information with the vet until you approve.

Sharing

We share information only with veterinarians you authorize via the access-request flow, with finders (limited to the public tier), and with our service providers for payment, push notifications, SMS, email, and hosting. Service providers process your information only on our behalf. We share information for legal reasons when required by valid legal process.

Location information

We collect location only as needed. Beacon detections record an approximate (not pin-precise) location. Vet access requests capture browser geolocation with the vet's permission. Lost mode uses the last known detection location to alert nearby app users.

The app does not continuously track your location. App users who opt in to background scanning share location only when a tag is detected, only to that tag's owner.

SMS notifications

If you opt in to SMS, we send notifications via Twilio. See road.dog/sms-consent for the full opt-in flow, sample messages, and how to opt out (reply STOP). Standard message and data rates may apply.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in and measure usage. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, email support@road.dog and we will delete it.

Your choices

Edit your information from the dashboard. Delete your account from the dashboard; most data is purged within 30 days. Reply STOP to opt out of SMS. Disable push or email in your settings.
